The biggest news of the day – and one that may take some time to unpack, is the Executive Order on the issue of competition. The EO is supposed to be targeted at, among others, steamship lines and railroads in the wake of soaring prices and falling service levels. Will this translate into immediate relief for shippers or the unsticking of bottlenecks or rates returning to earth? Highly unlikely; but maybe the meteoric rise in freight rates will slow somewhat as the official peak season arrives.
